RAILWAY TRAVELLING.

TICKETS AND FARES. Important alterations in the scale of fareß.and other changes for railway transportation are gazetted. These changes were referred to in the Minister's statement on the reduced services, but tho Gazette notice gives details. They were gazetted before the recent strike limitations of trains, and may be regarded as settled policy for war time. Upder the old' regulations single tickets for distances over 20 mileß were available for one'month, and return tickets over 10 miles for three months. •Under the new regulations single ticckets for over 20 miles and. return tickets for over 10 miles will bo available for three days, inier-island tickets for four days, and return tickets will not be issued for distances over 100 miles.

Holiday excursion tickets, single commutation tickets, family commutation tickets, and workers' commuta-tic-.i tickets are abolished, and instead a scheme of weekly' 12-trip tickets will be instituted, and the tickets issued subject to the following rules: Weekly 12-trip tickets are issued for distances not exceeding 25 miles. They arc available for use only .between the stations specified thereon, and will toe issued only .to .persons resident in the neighborhood of the issuing station and for lise by the purchaser when travelling second class only. They will expire on Saturday of the week in which issuedi, and are limited to .one outward and one homeward trip per day. They are not available for I break of journey nor for use on Sunidays. Kb reduction in charge will be made for children.

The special fares for Technical School pupils, for school parties, factories, and friendly societies, for teams and picture theatres, for A. and P.- Show judges going to shows, for delegates to meetings, of'friendly societies and religious bodies are cancelled.. The concessions .for the carriage of racehorses, polo ponies, Hunters, and volunteer horses are abolished.
