To the Editor. - , Sir,—Farmers were required, under the : Land and Income Assessment Act, 1908, and the Amendment Acts, 1912 and 1913, and the Finance Act, 1915, to forward to tho Commissioner of Taxes at Wellington not later than June 2, 191(5, returns of income and expenditure for the year ended March 31, 1010, whilst the returns for the previous year were demanded sonic few months earlier. That Mr Bakewell should he conveniently ignorant of this duty imposed upon farmers is possibly the' reason why ho desires to be considered an "economist," dr perhaps, like many of his fellow farmers, he was so busily engaged in preaching' duty to the boys that he quite overlooked iiis own.—l am, etc., JAS. HINE, JR.
