The latest issue of the New Zealand Gazette contains a notilication of the appointment of Dr W, f. Simmons, M.8., Ch.li., X.Z., of Put™, as captain in th» New Zealand Medical Corps. Mr. Vernon W. Stanton has resigned his position as probationer at the Central School, having volunteered and been accepted for active service ivnitb. the 30th Reinforcements.
Mr. ,E. G. Johnson, who has been i valued member of tho Canterbury Education Board's staff for eleven years, was farewelled by the members of the Board's staff last week previous to his leaving for New Plymouth to take up tho position of assistant secretary of the Taranaki Education Board,
The Board of Education, at its meeting yesterday, contirmed the appointment of Mr. 'H. A. Stratford as head master of the Central School, and also appointed Mr. R. L. Mollroy temporary master. It was also, resolved to invito amplications from teachers in the district willing to accept appointments <a the Central School as first or third assistants.
Mr. R. C. Hughes has been appointed chairman of the Pukekura Park Board for tlio ensuing year. Mr. S. Percy Smith, the retiring chairman, stated that lie had never served on a public body where there had been such bar* mony. Mr. Newinan, in proposing a vote of thanks to Mr. S. Percy Smith, con' aidered that New Plymouth wag fortun< ate in having a man of his ability in New Plymouth interested in the work. Board yesterday the chairman welcomed Mr P. J, 11. White, the newly-elected member to the Board.
