CAME AREA TO BE SOft.V. Christchureh, April 22. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald stated last night tlmt lie had no definite information yet as to the total acreage that was to lie sown in wheat, hut, judging from the applications received for seed wheat, the indications were very promising tlmt tho acreage required, about -200,003 acreq. would he sawn. He hoped to have a eensus taken at the end o£ June to ascertain the extent of tho autumn sowing, and, in tho event of the acreage not being sufficient, to make a strong appeal for spring sowing. In some districts the farmers had promised to increase their areas under wheat.by 20 per cent. He thought that tho farmers realised tho position, and intended to assist the Government by putting in ai much wheat as possible.
