MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETINCI. T)io Moa, Road Board met, 1 at Inglewood 011 Saturday. Present: jr. Trimble (chairman), T. S. Bowler, A. Corkill, J. W. llenwoofy J. R. Harrison, A. Hunter, J. Hucker, J. Williams, A. E. Laurence. The Inglewood Borough Council incited the Hoard members to attend the Anzae service at the Town Hall on Monday evening'. LEPPE-R ROAD CONTRACT. The Taranakl County Council wrote regretting that it could not legally allow the Board to complete the contraofc on the Lepper road. They had appointed | Mr Sladden to assume control, and desired the Board to submit figures and plans so as to arrange for adjustment of loan money being transferred.—The Board discussed the matter- of the transfer of the contract in committee. NORFOLK ROAD METALLING. The chairman stated; that some of the settlers residing on the Norfolk road 'iad stated their willingness to assist by free labor in improving the road. The amount aready expended was about £4O overdrawn, and if they acceded to this request the amount would be increased. Ho believed that the Board should give settlers every assistance in the direction, and thought that they might allow tliem a grant to tho extent, of £7s—practically 12 months' rates—but that would mean that the settlers then would 1* in the same position as now, £4O behind. Still, with this grant (£75) the settlers would be enabled to continue the metalling of t'ie voad from where they had completed last year. They, (tho settlers) would thus bo able to go as far as Mr Gable's, and probably to Sir B. Doirfbroski's. He believed the Board should grant) the settlers -every assistance. The other members expressed a like opinion. The settlers had Nbliowu an excellent spirit in assisting the Board in improving the road. A resolution granting permission was then carried. OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer (Mr W. R. Davies) reported that, as Instructed, the set of Sin. pipes near 'Messrs Thompson and Henivood's laundry, Linucoln road, had been put in. The bridge.on -Bedford rftad, south of Norfolk rood, had been built, lhe drains on .Surrey and Johns roads had Ipeen cleaned, and a start had been made .with the drain on Mangaotea road. There were some stumps in this drain which should toe Mown out to enable the water to go away. Motukawu road in connection with Mr Crowe's offer to cart the metal if the Board; would metal a strip of G'2-S chains—Messrs Ludetnaim and, Wilson each gave a dav of free labor to assist with the metalling. The work of -building the 'bridge near Mr -Hogan's was in progress. A set of Seven 12in, pipes mas needed at the top end of Mofcufcawa roat}, near Ift- Standishs. On Egmont road south, the boulders from Marsh's, contract had been stacked -and measured (in all 132 cubic yards 10ft). Owing to- the wet weather the work in connection with free labor on Durham road had been slightly delayed, but weather permitting the 'plant would -be shifted in about a week's time. He had seen Mr E. 0. Robiiisoii re bridge over Ngatoro river,' but as yet he ftad had no word from the district engineer. Owing to wet micather the contractors were proceeding slowly with the boulder contracts. General maintenance work had -been done on the following roads: Davis, Wortlcy, Lincoln, Rimutauteka, Kainuita south, -Motakawa, Norfolk east and west. ' i MEMBERS RETIRING The following members retire by rotation.from the Board: -Messrs J. W. ITen(vood. A. Corkill, H. Trimble, and T. S. Howler. Nominations close next Saturday, 28th inst. Amounts totalling £392 9s 7d iwere passed for payment.
