(From 'Our Own Correspondent). Word has been received in Hawera that Genders Fodcn, who recently received serious shrapnel wounds, is being invalided home, and should arrive next month. ' At a meeting of the commilloe. of the Hawera Bowling Club, it was decided to forward a cheque to the centre for the entry fees and proceeds of small tournament in aid of the centre Wounded Soldiers' Fund. This amount is between £lO and £l7, and is additional to the sum of £3O the club subscribed towards the Red Cross Fund in Hawera. It. was decided to close the green on the first Wednesday.ni May. On Wednesday afternoon a pleasant little function was held at Mrs Bright« residence on the South road, where members of the Plunket Society assembled to bid farewell to Mrs Kemp, who has 'been treasurer of the society for some time. Mrs Blamires, in a very happy little speech, presented Mrs. Kemp with an afternoon tea service as a token of appreciation of the members. During the afternoon musical and elocutionary items were given by Mesdames Macdonald and Spratt. . At Wednesday night's meeting of the-Borough Council the matter of increasing the Mayor's honorarium was brought up, and after considerable discussion it was found that the matter was out of order, and had to be dropped.
