To the Editor.
Sir,—ln reply to "J.U.5.," lie states Hint land nationalisation will wipe out protected industries because our exports and imports will increase. They have been increasing by leaps and hounds. Each year sees an increase in our production, but that has not stopped protected industries. Then "J.H.S." states thai the rent from land will be used to
relieve the customs. What has become of all the rent from the land let or sold by the State? It has not wiped out protected industries, nor lessened the Customs Tax. How does "J.H.S" think the State is going to acquire the land!
1 presume he is honest enough to make the State pay for it. Well, as they will have to borrow the money, the rents will go to meet the interest. If "J.H.S." got a piece of nationalised land he would be quite within his rights in selling his lease as hundreds of others have done in the past, although it carries a State rent.— I am, etc., "PROGRESS.."
Sir,—ln reply to Mr. J. B. Simpson in his last letter he accuses me of sidetracking a straight question. In my two previous letters, I advocated the bulk of taxation on land, and as Mr. Simpson agrees with mo, as he quotes Henry George advocating the same thing, with your permission, I will leave it at that.—l am, etc,
