THE EMPIRE.

GLORIOUS BILLIE BURKE I.X "PEGGY." The fame of Billie Burke in her first motion picture, "Peggy," had probably reached every local resident a long while before tho film was advertised to be .screened here, due in a great measure to the record-breaking run this film had in Auckland and Wellington where the crowdß exceeded even those ivho fought to sec "The Common Law" a few wccks earlier. That New Plymouth is no exception to the rule when it comes to turning out to view a special picture success was again demonstrated last r.ight when the Empii-2 Theatre was packed to the doors to see the first local screening of Billie Burke as "Peggy" in this town. "Peggy" is a revelation, and the praise the film has had on all hands is understandable. Billie Burke is unapproachable in combination of womanly qualities and boyish devilry which join together in "Peggy." Her moods are as changeable as the sea, and it. is hard to say in which scene she can be said to be most lovely. In man's clothes she is very alluring, but still more graciously sweet in her own pretty fiocks. The investiture of tho "film is wonderful, :i whole Scotch village having been specially erected for the purposes of the film. The star by the way received a salary which works out at £231 per day fur this production, and she is well worth it. A fine piece of character acting is done by H. H. Thompson as dour old Cameron Peggy's Scotch uncle. "Peggy" will he screened:again to-night anu for the last occasion to-morrow night. Seats for either night can be reserved at Collier's (luring the day and by ringing the Empire Theatre, 305, after six o'clock. The theatre is sure to be packed again to-night and intending patrons would be well advised to go early cr reserve their seats.
