STATE CONTROL OF HOTELS. PROVIDING AGAINST LURE OF BEER. 'Received April 9, 8 p.m. London, April 8. The Government is apparently preparing the public for the State purchase of sh» drink traffic. , 'Mr John Hodge (Minister of Labor), Interviewed, says traditions disapprove of prohibition or municipalisation, but favor the State purchase, providing •gainst the lure of beer by transforming a public house into a workingmen's club with indoor games. An ideal publicbouse would have a tennis ground and a (togling green, local authorities employing, the profits for trade extension and for amusements and recreations. THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. London April 8. The Empire Cabinet and Imperial Conference suspended their deliberations over Easter week. The meetings are likely to last into May.
