A YOUNG GIRL MURDERED. MURDFRfiR ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. By Telegraph.—'Press 'Association.' Christcliureh, last Night. . About 10 o'clock this morning a {ir! naiucj Henrietta Foster, aged 18 jcirs, waa murdered by Charles Butler, tged ■lO, lit View Mil staioin, 10 miles from 1 Oxford, North Canterbury. The girls father U the caretaker of the View Hill station, and with his Wife' and two daughters went to Chrlatcliurch 1 from Oxford, leaving Henrietta at the( house. Butler, a rouseabout on the place, got his rarer from his lint, . entered tho homestead kitchen, where 'Henrietta Foster was sitting on the sofa, darning / stockings, and cut h<* throat from ear to ear. There was no other interference with the girl. Butler unsuccessfully attempted toi drhwii himself in a well. When arrest* ed, he admitted the crime, and wa*. brought to Cliristcliurch. Butler was well known in the Oxford district, where ho had resided for GOmei years. He was a thrifty inaq, having a large sum at credit in the bank. .
