North of Landrieomt we progressed, by means of gretu».:l-»s and reccenpied fresh positions in a trench northwest of Rfieims. ENEMY'S SEVERE LOSSES. LONG AEROPLANE RAID. Received April 8, 5.6 p.m. London, April 7. Field Marshal Sir Boutins Hair* reports:—Wo carried the village of Lempire, northward of St. Quenfin, and further progressed north-east of Norquil, The enemy's severe losses during the past week between St. Quentin and Arras was. evidenced by the large numbers of dead in many localities, Our aeroplanes, in long raiding expeditions, bombed important railway junctions, munition depots, and aerodromes. A French communique states:—Between the Somme and Oise and north of Soissons there were artillery engagements at different points, The infantry, north-west of liheim% continued their advance by bombing. West nf Sapigneul the enemy violently bombarded Rheims. A French communique states:—l here has been violent artillerying in tlic Aollon and Orngis region! We further progressed north of Laudricourt. There is great mutual artillerving north-west of Bcrry-au-bac, as well'as much aerial activity. A German bombardment at ulieims killed 10 civilians.
RHEIMS BOMBARDED. CIVILIANS KILLED AND WOUNDED Received April 9, 1 a.m. Loudon, April S. JM'oneli official: There is much lively artillerying The Gerimuis last evening threw many thousands of shells into the city of Rheims. Fifteen civilians were killed and many wounded. HUN ATROCITIES. CONFIRMED BY PRISONERS. Received April 8, 11.5 p.m. London, April 7. Several orders have been found on prisoners captured during the Bapaume retreat, ordering them to blow up houses, cellars and churches, and to pollute wells with croesot and dung.
