EFFICIENCY
To the Editor. Sir. —Your Hawera correspondent "Pro Jiono Publico" should have signed himself "Pro Beero Publieano," as his attempt to torpedo me while flying the Red Cross flag is worthy of the best traditions of the "trade." I made no attack on sport of any kind. "Wowser," lie erics. Let us see who they are—tho Y.M.C.A., Salvation Army, C.E. M.S., the R.C. Men's Working Guild, all keeping the boys at the front, and working for the good of the country. All "wowsers!" There are no wowsers of military age and fitness left; tliev l.ave all enlisted. Let "Publico'' pay a visit to any church and see how many fit "wowsers'" are left. Then 011 ICaster Monday go to the trotting races and see liow many "sports" of military age are left, and'lie will be sorry for himself and his crowd. I consider it nearly as honorable these days to be called a "wowser" as it is to win the D.C.M., if the Y.M.C.A. are typical of that sect. Anyhow I feel quite flattered to be called one. We fell do our best to help the boys to win the war, if we have to insist that liquor bars shall be closed in the interest of efficiency. I am, etc., C. D, SOLE,
