A Melbourne cablegram reports the death of Mr. Edward Fricker, editor of the Australian. Mr. A. Clark, a former member of the New Plymouth Borough Council, is on a visit- to .New .Plymouth. Went. E. S. Bayley arrived by last nights express to spend his Easter holidays in New Plymouth. Sergeant V. C. Davies, of the 27th Reinforcements, arrived in New Plymouth last night on Easter holiday leave. A Paris cable states that General Lyantrey, late Minister for War, has been appointed Resident-General of Morocco. Ho was formerly in charge of the Moroccan military forces. A London cable states that the city of Manchester confers the freedom of the city on Mr. W. F. Masscy. The Argus states that, the Bev. G. W. Dent will be leaving Eltham district at about the beginning of July, he having ell'ected an exchange with the vicar of Brooklyn. Mr. ,T. R. Cruikshank has, it is understood, declined nomination for the Harbor Board. The candidates mentioned so far for the New Plymouth district are Messrs C. E. Bellringer (sitting member) and Jas. McLeod. Mr. F. Lundon, well known throughout Taranaki as a contractor, leaves today en route to camp, having been accepted for service in the non-commis-sioned camp. Considerable sympathy will be extended to Mr. Norman D. Day, of the Contra) School staff, who has sustained a severe bereavement by the death of his wife, which occurred at Wellington yesterday, after an illness of some weeks. Deceased, who was 25 years of age-, was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs T. Bambcr, of Wanganui. Mrs. Dalrymple, eldest daughter of the late Mr, John Stevens, has been mentioned in despatches by Sir Douglas Haig for long servico and devotion as a nurse at the front. Her husband, Mayor Dalrymple, is in charge of an ambulance train at the front. His threo sons, Laurie, Ken and Bnrrel, are in the fighting line, whilst his three daughters are nursing in England. A Press Association cable reports the death of Lord Allerton (William Lawies Jackson), at the age of 77. He was a son of the late W. Jackson, of Leeds, being created Ist Baron of Chapel Allerton in 1902. He was chairman of the Great Northern Railway Company, He contested Leeds in 1876, and represented Leeds North in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1902. He was secretary to the Treasury from 1885-1880, 188(i----1891, and Chief Secretary for Ireland 181)1-1892. He is survived by two sons and five daughters, his heir being the "Ton. Geo. H. Jackson.
