DISTRICT NEWS.
LEPPERTON: (From Our Own Correspondent.) A most successful concert followed the fete on Thursday last, the hall being densely packed. A very fine feature of the concert was a series of tableaux in which many of the young people of the district, undei the direction of the Misses Heppel, Munro, and Clifford, took parts. The first tableau represented Britain and her Allies. This was followed by scenes showing a soldier going to camp, a battle scene, the wounded on the field of battle, a hospital scene, the .wounded soldier's return, with a grand finale bringing in all the factors in the previous scenes. Interspersed wth these tableaux were songs from the Misses Mclsaac and Fox, and Messrs. Mclsaac, Sergt.-Major Gregor, and Air. Lovell, the latter of whom provided the comic element. Recitations were given by Miss E. Mouat and Mr. S. Tate, of Waitara, and several banjo solos by Mr. Gadd, of Wellington. The quality of these performances is shown, I think, by the fact that the audience, without exception, demanded encores from every ptrformer. The accompanists were Mrs. Denton, Miss Fox, Miss Clifford, and Mr. Gadd. A dance brought to a close a day which had proved not only thoroughly enjoyable, but also a great financial suqpess, as shown by the figures already published in your columns. Something over £S was made at the concert. A full report of further contributions will be published after the final meeting. I am pleased to be able to report that there is a change for the better in Mr. Tom Openshaw's condition.
