WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY. COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING.
At the usual monthly meeting of the above there were present: Crs W. A. McCutcheon (chair), M. O'Neill, N. R. Cleland, M. Greevcr, N. O'Neill, T. R. Mounsey, A. Corfue and J. McCluggage. Mr. Mitchell's tender at £340 for labor for second township bridge contract was accepted.
The engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for a new bridge over the Makahu stream, near Manning's, the cleric to apply for loan money. Cr. McCluggage was instructed to procure the necessary labor for Pohokura riding.
It was resolved to grant the Whangamomona Medical Association lease of the road reserve at a nominal rental of 2/« per annum.
The county clerk (Mr. A. Coleman) forwarded his resignation. After some discussion it was resolved that the chair man and Cr. McCluggage confer with tne county clerk from time to time and arrange with him for temporary assistance and payment with power to act. The question of making representations to the railway authorities for cleaning out railway culverts near Te Wera was left to Cr. O'Neill.
D. Pitcaithly wrote re wandering Btock. It was resolved that the council inform him that they have never been able to secure the services of a reliable ranger, and cannot give him assistant, but he has the power to impound cattle injuring his property. The question, of revaluation of tne county was discussed at length, and the following resolution carried: "That as no general revision of the land values of the district has been made for eight years, during which period very heavy outlay has been made upon improvements and in the purchase of freehold of leased lands, renewed urgent application be made to the Valuer-General for an early valuation of the Whangamomona County in order that if possible the amended valuation may be available for State and local taxation purposes during the coming year, and that this application be forwarded under registered cover, so as to reach the Valuation .Department before the 31st inst. An offer of the engineer to undertake engineering work of the council at £3OO for 12 months was accepted. Cr. MeCuteheon gave notice of motion, "That a general rate of 2 : ] din the £ be struck and levied" at'nest meeting.
