THAT MEETING AGAIN.
To the Editor. Sir,—Mr. James Hine was not present at the Inglewood meeting. I was, and heard the words he takes exception to. Mr. Okey was putting up the best defence he could for the income tax. His remarks drew from a- member of the audience—not your humble servant—the ejaculation, "Then it's only the fools who get caught!" In my opinion'this was quite a sound conclusion from the tenor of Mr. Okey's statements. Mr. Hine detaches the interjected remark from its text, and from the circumstances under which it was made, and takeß it for the text of a sermon upon our fiscal and other duties. He writes of " the admitted anomalies and inequalities'' of the Finance Act, and would amend it by gazetting the assessments. Hitherto an inspector has condemned to destruction n diseased brute; henceforth he shall amend matters by advertising the facts of the unsoundness in the Gazette, Mr. Hine might worthily rank with the authors of that amazing piece of "fiscality," the Finance Act, l'.llfl. I am, fete.,
