PERSONAL.
Mr. J. H. Gunson (Mayor of Auckland] was in Taranaki yesterday, leaving by the steamer in the evening. Mr. Arthur Dye, of Auckland, lias been appointed Acting Town Clerk of Waitara. There were five applications for the position.
Private advice has been received that Major R. A. Row, of the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Major Row left New Zealand viith the Main Body as major in charge of A Company, First Canterbury Regiment, and served with distinction in the Qallipoli campaign, and was afterwards tVirough the liig fighting on the French front.
Genuine regret was felt at Manaia when word came through of the death through wounds of Sapper Eric Meliugh, youngest eon of Nurse Mcllugh, for wany years a resident of Manaia. Sapper Mcllugh at one time was an oilicial of the local post office, and was a general favorite with all who knew him. He is one of Mrs. Mcllugh's five sons who are on active service. Nurse .McHugh is at present serving the Empire as nurse in one of the London hobpitala.—Stai, Sergeant A. N. Bluclier, who was wounded severely in the face and hands on February 21, is one of six brothers on active service—the sons of,. Mr. E. Bluclier, Bereaford street, Auckland. Sergeant Blueher enlisted wtili the Auckland Mounted Infantry, and left New Zealand in December, 1914. After arrival in Egypt lie was transferred to the machine-gun section, and in it fought through the Gallipoli campaign till September, 1915, when he was invalided to England. On recovering he left for Egypt, and in May last received his sergeant's stripes.
