THE EMPIRE.
A GORGEOUS WORLD FILM,
~ "VELVET PAW."
American politics at their stormiest form the leading motive of "Tho Velvet l-'aw," showing at the Empire for the last time to-night. The heroine is a beautiful young woman who is skilfully converted by a cleyer old scheming politician into a dangerous feminine lobbyist. She ruins one career after another but real love come* to her'at last and she realises the infamy of the game she is playing. The Congress scenes are «nc, and the .film is remarkable for splendid pictures of Washington, the capital, and the other magnificent Assembly and Governmental buildin«s of tho United States. There is afso a genuine peep at President Wilson (without his typewriter), and the whole investiture of the play is most convincing. The story is good and hangs well together, and the last few scenes are full ol action and highly dramatic. Gail Kane fits the part well, and her emotional acting is full of appeal."' Her fresh beauty lends itself well to the role of the seductive wire-puller. House Peters is seen in his best role to date, " TO-MORROW.
A complete change of programme will bo screened to-morrow when the principle attraction will be a Marguerite Clarke feature, entitled "Still Waters "
