RACING IN WAR TIME.
'HON. W. D. S. MACDOXALD SPEAKS PLAINLY. Chvistchureh, March 22. ■ The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, in the ' course of a speech at the annual meeting of the Canterbury A. and P. Association las'„ night, said that there was no doubt that the whole business of races and shows, though 'be believed agricultural shows served a good purpose, i-honld lie considered by the Effiicency Board, and though he was a racing man he was quite prepared to have racing declared iion-cssen.tial. He advised those interested in thoroughbred's not to go too strong on the job. There were only a few men in the Dominion taking a keen interest in the thoroughbred, and he hoped that lie would not live to see the thoroughbred out of existence. Every owner, trainer and jockey fit for military service \yould be called up without fear or favor by the Government, and ; their cases would-be adjudicated upon I by the Military Service Boards.
