JUVENILE THIEVES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, March 23. Two boys, aged 15 years, were commit* ted to the Burnham Industrial SchoOi by Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., for stealing on February 28, at the Addington saleyards, £2lO 18s lid in cash an £297 lis Gd in cheques, the property of tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited. One boy ran into the office at the yard and grabbed the cash box, and the pair divided the contents and tore up tho cheques and fifty £1 notes, which they put down a drain.

SHORTAGE OF TIMBER WORKERS. Wellington, March 23. A deputation representing sawmillers from Waimarino down to Inveroargill waited on the Hon. A. L. Herdman, Attorney-General, to-day, to point out the difficulties the industry was meeting as the result of the shortage of labor, and to request that the Moratorium Act, which at present only applied to niorti gages, should be extended to timber leases and cutting rights. The Minister was sympathetic, but pointed out that many difficulties stood in the way. Ho would consult the Crown law officers and see what could be done.
