ALLEGED SLANDER.

JURY FINDS AGAINST J. VIGOR BROWN, M.P. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ■ Napier, Last NigliV J. V. Brown, M.P., Mayor of Napier and member of the Napier Barboc Board, to-day sued A. E. Jull, of Waipawt, chairman of the Napier Harbor Board, for £5Ol damages, claimed for the following utterance, made by the chairman at a board meeting last August 8: "I have every reason to say that Mr, Brown has not acted as he should have acted. Hie action was tantamount to it person agreeing to become foster parent to an infant and then talcing it to a quiet place and strangling it. It was equivalent to Germany's submarino policy. .Mr. Brown did not even advise them that the amendment was in progreu, and he was not acting in conformity with the best usages. I doubt whether there is any member of the Houße who would take up the same attitude as Mr. Brown. I feel it is a pity, when an opportunity occurs to benefit the people of Napier and for a member to assist that that member should spike their guns and prevent the work going on." Mr. Jull was referring to Mr. Biown'i attitude concerning the Napier Harbor Board Empowering Bill, which was not submitted to Parliament last session. The jury returned a verdict for defendant, with costs against plaintiff.
