NGAMOTU SEASIDE FESTIVAL.

■^ A GREAT SUCCESS. The Ngamotu Seaside Committee arranged a huge gymkhana and seaside festival as a fitting romuiemoration of the visit of the Home liner, and the suscess achieved fully justified them. The beach was thronged throughout the day, and the crowd gained considerable enjoyment from the varied programme that was submitted. Thj committee, of which Mr J. Harden is president, and Mr. R. 0. Ellis is secretary, had spared no pains in catering for (he public. A host of gatekeepers, including Messrs W. C. Weston, L. Hoffmann, S. Bass, Geo. Grey, J. Moray, Coad, M. Holah, H Baker, B. Honeyfield, H. Gaylard, Simcock and Day, had a busy time collecting nearly £l4O. The soft drinks stalls, under Mr. C. Ward, and the lobby, s'-all, in charge of Mesdames Ellis and*Hayden, also did good business, as did the afternoon tea in the Palladium in charge of Mrs AVallis. The bathing pavilions were also occupied all day and must liave added considerably to the revenue. It is estimated that the day's takings from all sources will be about £ISO. The band, under Mr F. W. O. McLeod, ren-,_ dcred a capital programme of music, and added to the day's enjoyment. The water football competition proved very interesting, and Messrs J. Stoker and Pat Webster, the referees, had a busy time, the matches being two spells of five minutes each. Mr Bary rendered valu-able-assistance in this department. The gymkhana was under the charge of Messrs L. A. Nolan (judge), L. Jennens and N. T. Hookham (stewards), A. H. Halcombe (judge), E. P. Webster, R. H. Pigott, B. H.'Chaney, and R. Fawkner. There were large entries in all the events. The races were controlled by Messrs Hayden, Jennens, Day, Bary, A. Smart. Messrs Pat Webster and Geo. Grey judged the ladies' swimming. Interest was lent to the gathering by an exhibition of machine-gun firing given by Lieutenant Jennins, reality being added by spectators being able to see the splash, where the bullets struck the water, thus giving an idea of the range and adaptability of the gun. At the conclusion of the sports, the prizes were handed to the winners by Mrs E. A. Walker, who was thanked by Mr Hayden in a neat speech. The results of the sports were: Ladies' Swimming (about 150 yards): Miss Banks 1, Miss I. Hawke 2. Foir entries. Boys' Obstacle Race: G. Ovenden '}, A. Eyre 2, L. Jenkins 3, Christensen special.
