THE FREE-TRADE POLICY.
ABG-UMENT AGAINST COLONIAL PREFERENCE. Received March' 20,'10.45 p.m. London, March 20. The Free Trade Union has issued a memorandum setting- out a series of arguments against colonial'prefei-elice and contends (inter alia) tlmt the adoption of the scheme will cause disappointment' and heart-burnings within the Dominions and lend India to* build up a protective tariff against the manufacturers of Great Britain. It contends that the policy is irreconcilable with the Paris economic recommendations, and submits that taxation of the Allies' merchandise will weaken the alliance and clicck common action against German schemes. WAR CABINET AND IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. Received March 21, 12.50 'a.m. London, March 20. The Prime Minister formally opens the Imperial Conference, after which Mr. Walter Long (Colonial Secretary) will pTeside. 'lt has been decided that ar far as possible the War Cabinet and Imperial Conference will meet on alternate days.
