RECRUITS FAREWELLED.
THE 27th REINFORCEMENTS. Yesterday morning sixteen men left New Plymouth by the mail train to | make up shortages in the 27th Reinforcements. They were provided with refreshments at the rooms of the Women's Patriotic Committee, who also presented them with hold-alls, and fruit for the journey. The Mayoress also presented them with cigarettes, A good crowd assembled at the railway station, the Citizens' Band being in attendance and playing a number of patriotic selections. Mr. C. H. Burgess (Mayor) briefly addressed the men, wishing them Godspeed and a safe return. He was sure they would worthily uphold the high traditions of thoso who had preceded them. Mr. Burgess also pointed out/that those who could not go to the front had important duties to perform here, and expressed the hope that Ihey would not be found wanting. Three hearty cheers were given for the men as they left the station. The recruits who left yesterday were: H. R. Aldridge, E. C. Barriball, J. M. Bilski, H. E. Boardman, W. J. Eellringer, A, D. Coombe, J. Frank, S. Hooper, C. T. Hopkins, A. Kilpatnek, C. T. Kenny, C. Lutz, A. S. Marctt, A. J. Murdock/c. D. McAllum, L. O'Sullivan.
