The monthly meeting of the County Council will be held next Wednesday. Chief interest centre* on a notice of motion, tabled by Cr. Smith concerning i.ae engineer's work. This, following on the "brush up" between the i r,gineer and Cr. Baskin, points to the likelihood of another "warm" meeting. It is a great pity that the recalcitrants will not leave alone an officer whose work speaks for itself, and whose leaving would be & distinct loss to the district. Stratford "sports'' were absent from town to-day. It was not a railway journey they made, rather by motor-car. Opunake was the rendezvous, and the task set them was- that of anticipating the judge's placing in the races held there to-day.
