HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tlio STew Plymouth Harbor Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs J. B. Connett (chairman), E. Maxwell, D. J. Hufrhes, C. E. Bcllringer, Newton King, , J. Mact'lugguge, and E. Dockrill. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. C. A. Wilkinson, M.'P., &n& JMarx. HARBOR-MASTER'S REPORT. The harbor-master, Captain W. Waller, reported that ioi the four weeks ending March 10, 19 vessels entered_ the port. The aggregate tonnage was 17,030 tons. The imports were 0472 tons, and the exports 1109 tons, a total of 7581 tons. ■"...-■ SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. The superintendent of works, Mr. F. Henderson, reported that for the four weeks ended March 10 the Paritutu dredged on 21 days, the net time worked being 244 hours, and removed a total quantity of 23,000 tons of spoil in si) loads. Thirteen loads were cut from the. east fairway, and 3.0 loads from the midlainvay. Three loads were taken from the eastern inshore berth, and four loads were taken from the breakwater bank with the sand pump. The east fairway cut had been completed at 1500 feet outwards from the end of the wharf, and the mid-fairway had been carried outwards 1350 feet from the saina point. Moorings were now laid to finish the outer part of the swinging basin. Three days were lost owing to < rough weather. During this time necessary work in changing worn buckets >vas done. The dredge Thomas King dredged on 21 days, the net time worked, being 184 hours. A total quantity W 9700 tons in 122 loads was removed, including six loads from the eastern berth with the grab bucket. The extension of the watcrsiders' shed was nearly completed, except for the internal fittings. 25 FEET LOW WATER. Tlio chairman reported that a thorough examination had been made of the harbor during the month, and Captain Waller had verified that there was now 25 feet low water in the basin and fairway. ACCOMMODATION FOR STAFF. A sub-committee reported on the question of erecting accommodation for the harbor-master's stall at the Breakwater, and recommended that a new ; harbor-master's residence be erected in concrete on a site to the east of the ■ flagstaff, and that the harbor-master's ■ present residence he used to aecommo- : date a member of the staff. The site ; fixed on by the committee for further ■ cottages to be erected in the future was ■ described as an admirable one. It was I considered the Board's men should he ! grouped on the site. The recommendas tion was adopted, and Mr. V. Griffiths • will be asked to prepare plans and ; specifications for the new house and f submit them to the next meeting of the ■ Board.

BATHERS' BEHAVIOR. A discussion took place in committee with regard to women promenading on the wharf scantily dressed in bathing costume, and with regard to undressing on the wharf. A resolution was passed as follows:—"That the harbor-master be asked to give instructions to some member of his staff fft see that no person in bathing costume "be permitted to promenade on the wharf, breakwater, or approaches.'' GEXERAL. Mr. F. P. Corkill wrote on behalf of a client, asking for a tenure of a site for buildings at the, base of the Breakwater. .It was decided to reply that no tenure could be granted, and that any buildings erected could only remain duriiKt the Board's pleasure. The Ngamotu Committee was granted permission to erect electric light poles on the Board's reserve. Messrs. King, Beilringer, and the chairman .were appointed a committee to arnmgo the most suitable date of sending the Paritutu to Wellington for her annual overhaul.
