Afternoon Tea.—To celebrate the opening of the new hot-water system that lias been presented by the Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) to the Pukekura Park for the use of the public, Mrs. C. H. Burgess entertained the members of the Patriotic League to afternoon tea on Thursday in the Park. Amongst those present were: Mesdames C. H. Burgess. R. F. Blundell, Ewing, F. Blunrlell, W. Ambury, Bowdcn. G. Xeal, Austin, Dockrill, T. G. Sole, Okey, Eberlet, Barttcy, and Misses Sole, Xorinan, Rawson, Godfrey, Fabian, Goldwater, Peart. WEDDING. A pretty wedding wis celebrate,! on Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Hawera. when Miss Margaret Hilda Were, daughter of Mr. James Were, of Hawera, was married to Mr. Charles Frederick Winks, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wink?, formerly of Normanby. The Rev. C. H. Grant Cowen performed the ceremony. The bride was attended by Miss Be?sie Were and Miss K. Piper as bridesmaids, while Mr. L. M. Moss was best man and Mr. Philip Graves groomsman. The bride wore an Indian worked ninon gown, over white satin, relieved by shell pink ninon, with the usual veil aiid orange blossoms, and carried a shower bouquet. Miss Bessie Were's frock was a shell-pink taffeta pinafore over pink ninon. Miss Piper's frock was a very pale blue taffeta pinafore over pale blue ninon. Each wore a big black picture hat and carried a dainty bouquet. The guests were afterwards entertained at Mr. J. Were's residence, where the usual toasts, etc., 'were honored. The happy couple left by car for their honeymoon trip.
