PRICES OF FOODSTUFFS. Sydney, March 16. The Statistician's estimates of the prices of meat and over seventy other foodstuffs is 21 per cent, higher than in July, 1914. GOVERNMENT WOOL SCHEME. Melbourne, March Ifi. In the House Mr. Hughes, outlining the Government's -wool operations, reported that excellent progress had been made. An agreement had been prepared for the manufacture of wool tops, for which contracts had been extended to Japan. The price was fixed by the Imperial Government. Arrangements were proceeding for scouring wool locally. Shipments to Russia for military requirements and to other-Allied Powers were under consideration. The Minister of Customs has refused to sanction the export "of horse-flesh. All the tonnage is required for wheat. STATE GOVERNOR. Stewart declared that the monarchist system was responsible for the war, and advised the people of Europe to dethrone every monarch after the war. A LABOR STONEWALL. Melbourne, March 15. The Senate passed the Supply Bill after the Labor opposition stone-walling all night. |
