Tlio Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford, report as follows: We held our animal sheep fair oil Friday, February at the yards of Mr. Harry Worthinglon, with 'his permission. Wo have to report a fair yarding, Rood attendance and satisfactory pale as follows:—Lambs, small, Cs 9d to 10s fid, medium las, f.m. ewes l!)s 3d, small 25b (Id for medium and 80s for Mr. Worthington's annual draft, fat ewes 31s Od, wethers (1 and G-tooth) 2!)u (id to 3os for fair lines, rams 1% to sgns. On Thursday, March 1, we neld our usual monthly sale at Kolniratahi, and we have to report a gootl yarding, every pen being filled, and we had a fair clearance, Lambs (small) Bs, fair 15s, good 17s 2d to 17s Ad, i and 'f-tooth ewes (medium) 25s to 2(is Id, good line 32s to Ms (id, f.m. ewes 2l>s to 20s (id, culls 10s to IGs, ranis up to /i'/:;gns, wethers (2 and 4-tooth) 255, pood lines 33s fid, 20 month steers (small) £S 12s, fat cows £8 10s, IS-month heifers (small) £5 Ids to £5 12s Cd. Jur next sale at these'yards will.be held on March 20. Oil Tuesday, March (!, wo held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards. We had a fair yarding and cleared a good of both sheep and cattle. Store cows, small, £•> os, medium weights up to £S fla, good lines £1) ffs, weaers (mixed sexes) 50s, good lines (ils, bulls (small) £5 Is, medium £9 15s, heavy up to £l2 2s Cd, rams f>gns, lambs !>s 2d for culls to 14s 3d for medium lines. Our next sale will be held on March 20.
On Thursday, Starch 8, at Tc Worn, we had a largo yarding of both sheep and cattle and a good attendance, and most lines changed hands. lambs (small) 7s 3d to 13s fur fair lines, 2-tooth wethers (small) 2."is, cull ewes 7s to 12s fid, weaners (mixed sexes) 3G's to 70s'for good lines, weaner steers 51s to 70s for fair lines, 20-month heifers IGSs, 18-month steers 14&s to lft7s, in-culf heifers 131s, cows in calf 100s, empty cows 102s, biuls (small) Kills. Our next sale will be held on March 23. We held our usual sale at our Tarata yards on Friday, March 9. We have to report a large entry of both sheep and cattle, also a large attendance of the public, but owing to the dry weather buyers did not operate freely, but, notwithstanding, .we have to report a fair clearance. Lambs, small and cully, 5s 7d to 12s Bd, medium to good 17s 3d to 19s 7d, f.iu. evve3 (small) 13s Cd, medium IDs 3d to 255, rams l'M-gns to 3%gns, fat cows (small) £7, medium £9, fair .weight £lO as, bullocks £ll 5s to £l3, mixed weaners (small) 2fis, jnediuin £2 ss, good 60s, bulls £9 to £lO. Our next sale will be held on April 6. Since our last report 'we have placed a largo quantity of stock privately:— Earns £'2 2s to £S 18s Gd,2 and 4-tooth wetbfers 25s to 31s, weaners 50s to Oos, lambs 16s to 21s, f.m. ewes 245, 27s 6d and 30s.
'HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, March 10, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are averagfe market prices on spot):— Meat—There is no material change in the market. Home-killed mutton and beef arc in good supply. Argentine mutton and lamb, prices are higher owing to continued small supplies of English lamb. New Zealand and Australian mutton arrivals, per lb, B%d, ewe mutton SVijd; Argentine mutton, heavyweight, liy t d, light-weight ll'/jd; New Zealand lamb, lOd; Argentine lamb, 12 3 /, d; Now Zealand beef, no supplies available; Argentine chilled beef, hinds I liy s d, fores lOVid. f Butter—Market continues firm owing to the absence of Dutch and Danish. Demand is mostly for colonial salted butters. Cheese—Markest continues firm owing to continued small supplies. By the authority of the Food Controller the following maximum wholesale prices have been fixed for both 'butter and cheese during «the next two weeks, Danish and finest New Zealand butter, salted and unsalted, 224s per cwt; Dutch creamery, Argentine and Irish- creamery, heavy buying by Home and Continental trade, 21Ss; French, 21tf; American creamery, 2145; English cheddar, per cwt., IGos; Canadian .white and colored chee?e, 1625; States flats, 100s. Henip—Market firm, and prices continue to advance. Good fair New Zealand, per ton, £G9; fair, £fi7; Govern-ment-graded fair Manila, £9O; coarse, £77; March to May shipment, good fair New Zealand, £O9; fair, £fifi; Govern-ment-graded fair Manila, £9O: coarse, £75. The output of hemp at Manila for the week ended last Saturday was 2,C00 hales. Wheat—Market firm, with an upward tendency. Australian 83s, Canadian 81s, Argentine 80s. Oats—Market firm, with hardening tendency.
