GRAFT ON A TROOPSHIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Starch 10. Interviewed to-day regarding Mr. Bedford's allegations of the sale of goods on transports, Sir James Allen said Mr. Bedford had submitted to him a document signed by certain responsible officers on the transport. This stated that tilings had been sold to soldiers. This was a recurring trouble. We had heard about them before, said the Minister, and for one ease he could recollect he dared say there were three cases. There were dismissals from the Union Company's services. v Every time we get any intimation of such things going on we hold an enquiry. The Minister further stated that the present allegations had been submitted for enquiry. PUBLIC SERVANT'S DEFALCATIONS. Invereargill, March 10. In the Supreme Court ,Albert George Leslie, clerk in the Stamp Department, pleaded guilty of thefts totalling £7GS, and was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. Mr. Justice Sim said there must be .laxity somewhere, when a man could go on stealing for more than six months. < SHOW GRANDSTAVj DESTROYED. Nelson, Marcli 10. The grandstand at Richmond agricultural showgrounds, used at the races, was destroyed by fire this morning. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The stand was insured for £soo' in the National Insurance Company.
