Dawson street.—From Fulford street to Bultiel street has been tarred and is now open for traffic. Standish Hill—The metalling is completed and tarring in progress. The" Rarawa was sent south, during which time no supply of tar came forward, and on her last trip she also brought no supply, which was disappointing. I have therefore had to send to Wanganui for a supply to enable the work to proceed, pending further supplies Srom Auckland. Paynter's Avenue.—The metalling has been completed from the railway bridge . to Wilson Street. Devon Street.—From Henui bridge to Liardet Street has been served with a coat of tar and sand. A small length has been left between Watson Street and Henui bridge until after the pending claim against the Council is settled. Tar well.—The erection of the well is just about completed, and is required very badly, for want of this storage we are now running short of tar. Mt. Edgecombe Street.—The kerbing and channelling is be.'ng laid. Carrington Road.—This work will now be put in hand. Reserves.—Eight seats have been erected along the Esplanade. The gorse is being cut on the old Waterworks Reserve. Arrangements have been made for the ploughing and harrowing for cropping at this reserve and for ploughing at Puketi Reserve. So soon as there is a favorable wind the gorse will be burnt. Waterworks.—Six new services were laid during the month. Two flush "services were installed. Leaks occurred in |he spiral steel mains in Devon Street al)C i Dawson Streets and have been repaired". Mains have been flushed. . INSPECTOR'S REPORT. Mr. R. -Day reports permits have been granted, the fees being £l4 15s 9d and the' value £2(JSO. Fortyfive notices of all' kinds were served during the month and ifre being complied with as the necessary. labor is available. The work of clearing the Mangaotuku age more satisfactorily i» proceeding, and a better state of affairs is evident in all parts of the town, During the month 3!) cases of tomatoes and eight cases of peaches were ordered to be withdrawn from sale. The work of clearing the Mangotuku stream is not proceeding as fast as I should like to see. Some of the owners are doing well, while others have clone nothing. I think one or two prosecutions would help to straighten out this matter. The sanitary services have been carI ried out satisfactorily.
