CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce was field on Friday evening. The president (Mr. •J. I). Sole) occupied the eliah. The Department of Agriculture brought under the notice of the Chamber a Jamaican firm which desired to open up trade relations between Jamaica and New Zealand. - Mr. J. K. Wilson resigned his. memDcrshtp. Messrs h. 3. Webster and W. C. Weston were elected members. It was decided to keep members on active service financial. The chairman said Mr. G. H. Buckeridge, honorary secretary of the Taranaki Producers' Committee, had written inviting the council of the Chamber of Commerce, members of the Borough Council, and the executive of the Employers' Association to meet .him at the Soldiers' Club on Tuesday afternoon to appoint a board of trustees to supervise the businesses of Xcw Plymouth men required for active service. The meeting resolved to do what it could to assist Mr. Buckeridge. The chairman urged those present to try to increase the membership of the Chamber. lie said it was almost a disgrace that so few business people Were members of the Chamber. The secretary said there were .05 members. Mr. W. J. Penn remarked that the Chamber's membership compared favorably with that of other chambers in the Dominion. The'discussion closed and the meetingconcluded.
