Weights for Rangitikei should appear on Monday. The fir.4 time the -wires whisper Shieia, be on it! Hawera "heads" are saving up for Re vocation at Opunake. ■Stay-at-homo punters got on to all the jokes at Nelson this week. The Waimate -Plains trotting meeting is drawing nigh. Wake up, trotters! Suppose the proposed curtailment of racing is another attempt to slaughter the struggling country clubs! It is reported that that harshlytreated jockstcr, Hector Gray, intends appealing to the Racing Conference against the action of the A.R.C. in refusing him a license. A contemporary reports that Margerene has gone stale. It is not to be wondered at considering the long spell of hot weather!
Change of name seems to bring change of luck. Instances, the successes of Cardrona (lato Arsene Lupin;; Teka (late Tito); and Tabasco (late Tobasco) Why not apply the expciimcnt to Madam Ristori?
Tete-a-tete is a real "stunner," and some of the wcight-for-age cracks will get a shock when they measure strides with Lo\vry"s sprinter. "Yes," was the wording of a smart code wire that went out from Wangamti the other day, and it meant "Neigh,'' which won and paid a handsome price. The Haw Ice's Bay district has produced some great quadrupeds, and with Desert Gold, Egypt, Tete-a-tete, Chortle, Bunting, Multifual, Hymestra, etc., is holding its own very comfortably again this season.
The Fordcll-traiiied Ararat is galloping very well at present, and looks like "striking oil" at Masterton. B. Deeley rode four winners at the Te Aroha meeting, and .7. O'Shca two.
Old Klectrakoll' was saddled up each' day at Te Aroha, hut the old champion was.very shaky on his pins, and raced like a "has been."
Biplane is galloping Well at- Ricearton. but he has to be worked in hock boots, which is not promising.
E| Gallo lias only been nominated for jumping events at the Auckland meeting. It will be interesting to see what Mr G. Morse gives him in the Autumn Steeples.
Flying Start, who lip.s had an extended spoil, is cottinss 'through ,good ■work again. Although touched in the wind, ho will bo a tougl customer up to sis furlongs at the autumn meetings. Elec'trnkorT ir, Weighted at 7.3 in the Ohineniuri Cup, run over a mile and a quarter, .lust fancy Minister giving the old horse nearly two stone when in his prime! The management of the Te Aroha meeting came, in for a lot of bad language. The first day the racing got an hour behind, and those who left the course after the seventh race found that the trains had boon delayed ;ir> minutes, though no oliicial notice of it was posted on tile, course. The absence of an ambulance on the course was another noticeable failing, and McMillan, who was seriously injured through falling off loyal Arch, lay on the course for a consider-
able time until picked up by a private car. The "stipes" ought to take a careful ncte of these matters, and supply the inlormation to the conference in July.
