TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") A final reminder is given to horseowners and trainers that aceepcances for all handicap events, and entries for the Maiden and Electric Scurries at the Opunake meeting, close to-day at 5 p.n. with the secretary at Pihama. The stakes offered are excellent, and those interested should not overlook the closing hour. See advertisement in this issue. Jockster J. O'Shea is now at the head of the winning jockeys' list. Sasanof and Kilboy are reported to be standing up to solid toil at Riccartoii. Mr. G. D. Greenwood was well advised when he paid 550 gns. for Bimeter at Randwjek in 1913. The black horse has won £4500 in stakes since. Camp Guard, who has been flattered with an Autumn Steeples nomination at Ellerslie, will have to improve in his fencing to have a chance. When Lady Middleton and Tyson were racing down the West Coast in January last the pair could have been bought for 350 govs., or perhaps less. The spell of bad luck which had dogged Messrs Walsh and Quarterman's pair, however, broke on the Coast, and since Winning there Tyson has "landed" once and Lady Middleton twice, and between them they have won twice the amount mentioned above. Polycrates, winner of the Newmaiket Handicap at Flemington on Saturday, is an imported horse by Polymelia— Marmite, and carried 8.12. He was, followed home by Headwind (7.3) and Petracia 6.10. < The feature of the St. Leger was the defeat of Wolaroi. winner of the V.R.C. Derby. The mile and three-quarter took 3.7 to run—nearly seven seconds slower than Client's time in the Wanganui Cup. The Napier Park meeting takes place on Friday and Saturday. Good acceptances have been received for ail the first day's events, and the racing should be of a high order. The presence of Tete-a-Tete, Chortle, Form Up, Multifual, Teka, etc., gives the gathering considerable importance. Although it is not generally known, says an Auckland paper, it is understood that a sub-committee of the Auckland Racing Club has been busy for some time past taking evidence bearing on things generally in connection with the sport. For obvious reasons the meetings are of a private nature, but from what can be gathered some of the evidence has been a bit of an eye opener to the committee, and as a result it is a certainty that more than one racegoer will be notified that hi future racing at Ellerslie can be carried on satisfactorily without his presence.
