The public of New Plymouth ' wore given a unique opportunity of witnessing _at Everybody's Theatre last evening a pictorial presentation of Shakespeare's immortal love tragedy, "Romeo and Juliet." When the play was advertised the people wondered how such a story, whose chief feature is the wonderful language used by the principal parties, could be successfully portrayed. William Fox has risen to the occasion and has produced a picture worthy of the masterpiece as conceived by England's greatest dramatist. All the details- of the pathetic legend on which Shakespeare founded the plot of this beautiful tragedy, which has been cherished* from time immemorial among the tradition* of Italian history, are preserved in the picture. The city of Verona, the members of the families of Montague and Capulet, who were at variance, the other characters featured in the play, and the old-time costumes, are faithfully depicted. The voles of Romeo and Juliet are entrusted to Harry Hilliard and Theda Bara, a handaone man and a beautiful woman, who carry put their respective parts with due regard to the high conception of the author. The other performers are cqualiy clever, and a high standard of artistic effort is maintained. The scenery is one of the most attractive features of the play, and the fine buildings and beautiful , views are very interesting. The audience followed the unravelling of the plot with the keenest interest, and the thoughts of Shakespeare wore conveyed in the form of excerpts from the play projected on the screen at close intervals. The enjoyment of the entertainment was greatly enhanced by the delightful music supplied by the orchestra. Everybody's should be crowded to the doors to-night, when.
