Mr. H. J. Deare left for Auckland last evening.
The Rev. A. B. Chnppcll and famih were passengers by the Rarawa last evening for Auckland.
Mr. A. H. Johnstone will not seek reelection at the forthcoming municipal elections.
Mr. D. A. Button and family left Ne<v Plymouth for Christchurch vesterdav. They will spend a fortnight in Wellington before proceeding to the Soutn Island.
Miss Nora O'Rorke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. O'Rorke. of Opunake, and a student of the Auckland University College, has received word that she has passed her B.A. examinations.
The death is announced of the Hon T. 11. Parata, 31.L.C., aged 84. Mr. Parata was a Maori of ancient lineage. He began to fail in health four or five years ago, but was a man of much energy during the tenure of the nine Parliament.; in which he represented the Southern Maori district—from ISSS to IMS. He was called to the Legislative Council on June 12, 1012. The list of New Zealanders on whom his Majesty the King of Serbia, has bestowed decorations for service in Egypt or Salonika, includes the name of Private Geo. Uumil, of the Wellington Infantrv, who was awarded the gold medal. Private Duffill is the son of Mrs Duffill, a highly respected resident of Inglewood, wiicre he resided since his boyhood. At the time he enlisted he was an electrician.
Writing to Ms father in Htiwera, Mr Julius Mendelsson, now of San Francisco, mentions that a man named Harrv Partington, while working at a bridge near the city, tell and was so injured that he succumbed shortly after. "Mr MendeJcon believes that 'he has a sister in New Plymouth and a brother somewhere in this district, and says he would like to get into touch with*them.
