The Shipping Controller has. notified shipowners engaged in the Australian and New Zealand, trades of his intention to take over the control of all tonnage engaged therein. Tt is understood tin's step has been taken to ensure the most economical and advantageous use of shipping. The owners are to retain their management, and an owners' committee will collaborate with the Controller with regard to the disposition of the ships if the Controller transfers any of the vessels to employment with countries nearest to the 'United Kingdom. The committee will advise a'! to thy best means of rearranging the programme of the vessels left in the Australian-New Zealand trade. The programme for homeward loading from Australasia should bo placed in the hands of a central committee of agents. It may possibly be entrusted to the two committees "who are now administering the loading programme of refrigerated tonnage. Similar action will be taken respecting other trades under consideration. The scheme will be put in operation as soon as nossible. '
