Mr Vernon Reed announces his candl dature for the Bay of Islands seat, vasigned by Mr W. Stewart.
Mr John Heslop, who lm3 again been re-appointed as a member of the Tnranaki Land Board, lias now been a member for about 23 yecrw. Dr. P. R. Cross, of Waverley, has been selected by the Ohura Medical Association. He is expected in the district at an early date.
Mrs P. E. Mills, Leach street, has received advice that her son, George, who left New Zealand with the 18th Reinforcements, was admitted to the Barracks Hospital, Millbank, on February '24.
Among the local school teachers who were successful at the teachers' examinations was Miss Hetta Spragne, of Devon Street. Miss Spraguo also received special mention in music. The Rev. A. B. Chappell wrote to the Borough Council on Monday evening, re signing his position on the Library and Museum Committees. The resignation was accepted with regret, and a motion was passed expressing the council's appreciation of Mr Chappell's services. A new position, that of general superintendent, of Maori mission, .was created by the Methodist Conference this week,
md the Rev. T. 0. Hammond, whose work among the Maoris of Taranaki for 30 years past is well known, was appointed for a term of threo years.
