BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS. The New Plymouth Borough Council, as at present constituted, goes out of office on April >!i, and an election of the new council will be held later in April. The council at present consists of the Mayor and 12 councillors. By virtue of a special resolution recently passed, the council next year will consist of the Mayor and eight councillors. Inquiries made by a New?, reporter yesterday, as to which of the present councillors propose to seek re-election, elicited interesting information. The Mayor (Mr C. H. Burgess) said he had not yet considered whether he would be a candidate for the Mayoralty or not. He could not say anything definitely yet.
Crs F. E. Wilson, L. M. Monteath and S. J. Smith intimated definitely that thev will not seek re-election. Crs W. A. Collis and W. F. Short stated that as far as they eould say at present, they would not be candidates. Cr. J. S. S. Medley is out of town at present, hut it is understood that he will not be a candidate. Crs J. W. Haydea and E. Griffiths have not yet decided whether to offer their seryiees to the ratepayers for another term or not. Cr F. J. Hill has offered his services to the Defence Department, and if accepted, 0/ course, not be a candidate for the Borough Council. In the ordinary course of events, he will seek re-election. Crs J. T. Mannix and A. E. Watkins are the only members of the present Council who have stated their intention to seek re-election.
The time 0/ the election is drawing near, and the councillors approached considered it was time the ratepayers were showing some interest in municipal affairs.
