The weather was fine, bright and warm, and there was a great attendance for the opening day of the Victorian Racing Club's meeting. The results of the races were: PIXES HURDLGS (two miles).— Tlialetas 1; Sir Prim 2; Nicka.jaek 3. Twelve started. Won by three lengths. Time, 3miu 44%sce. ST. LEOER STAKES (for three-year-olds; special weights; one mile and three-quarters).—Colbert 1; Thar.a 2: Wolaroi 3. Thg first two were always leading. Thana led round the turn, but Colbert headed her into the straight, and wo» by one and a half lengths. Time, 3mm 7sec. ■■ NEWMARKET HANDICAP (of 2.300 sovs.; six furlongs).—Polycrates 1; Headwind 2; Petrncia 3. Scratched: Aleconner, Woorak, Balarang and \Lnvendo. Polycrates drew the rails, and showed out- in front first, and, after going half a furlong, improved the. lead. Headwind, who was on the extreme outside, got out over last half furlong, and the finish looked like a dead heat, but Polycrates got the decision by half a head, 'Petraeia being half a length awav. Time, Imin !"sec. SIRES PRODUCE' STAKES (of six furlongs).—Thrice 1; Pleasant Moments 2; Lady Comely 3. There were eleven starters. Won by three-quarters of a
length. Time, linin Msec. ESSENDOX STAKES (of one mile and a half; weight-for-age).—Patrobas (Lewis) 1; Burrabadeen '2; Aides 3. Also started: Prince Bardolpli, Redfern. Rushford and William the Silent. A mile from home William the Silent led by two lengths from Redfern, Rushford, Patrobas and Burrabadeen. At the turn Patrobas appeared to be pocketed on the rails. 'Prince Bardolpli led into the straight from Redfern, then Patrobas got through and was chased by Burrabadeen. Lewis rode a great finish. Won by a head. Time, 2min BVisec. ' BRUNSWICK STAKES (of one mile and a quarter).—Court Jester 1; Bombita 2; Polydamus 3. Twenty-eight smarted. Poiydamus led into the straight from Court Jester, who prevailed by threequarters of a length. Time, 2min C'/osec
