RUSSIAN PRISONERS CLUBBED, A MASS OF BLOODY FLESH. Reuter Service. N Received March 5, 5.5 p.m. London, March 4. A Petrograd telegram states that Senator Kriutsoff, President uf the Commission of Inquiry into German atrocities, vouches for the following story:— Sixty Russian non-commissioned officers, who were imprisoned at Mannheim in October last, refused to go to the North of France to do military work. Thereupon, by order of their officers, the German soldiers beat them with rifle butts for half an hour till they were merely a mass of bloody flesh, whereon an officer mounted and walked about. CpTTON GIVES WAY TO WHEAT. Petrograd, March 4. The cotton crop in Central Asiatic Russia is estimated at nearly three million tons. The acreage has decreased, owing to the increasing cost of production, the people finding it more profitable to grow wheat. THE IN PERSIA, London, March 4. A wireless Russian official message says: Our Persian detachments carried out an offensive in the direction of Bidgar, and occupied a village two milc3 south-west of tile town. We captured Hamadan on Friday.
