ROYAL COMMISSION NEGATIVED 1 . A SENATOR FEARS PERSECUTION'. A. & N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter.l Melbourne, March 3. In the Senate Mr Pearce, replying to Mr Watson's charges detailed a conversation with Mr Watson. He said the latter assured him that he would like to be with the Hughes party. The only reason ho was not was that he feared if lie took the steps he could no longer live where he was now living, because the lives of himself and family would b& made a hell upon earth, In the House of Representatives in the course of his reply to Senator Watson's charges, Mr Hughes stated that the caucas party during the conscription referendum asked him to go to the Labor organisations and obtain a free hand for them to enable the Caucus Party to support him. Mr Tudor's motion asking for a Royal Commission was negatived by 35 votes, to 18. The motion for the postponement of : the election was carried by 34 votes to-. 17. Melbourne, March 3, The Bill for the repeal of the Day* light Saving Act- was read a first time.
