Representatives of the Methodist Conference who interviewed the actingPrime Minister (Sir James Allen) to-day urged that the Government should re strict the miMjier of art unions. One of the speakers stated that he feared the art unions were inculcating gambling habits among the young people, and in any case be did not believe that an art union, with its appeal to the spirit of greed, was a suitable means of raising money for patriotic purposes. Sir James Allen said he had a great deal of sympathy with the views of the deputation regarding the art unions. "1 don't like the art unions myself," he stated. *', l don't think that the principle j behind them is a good one. As far as 1 ' am concerned I would like to see them reduced very much, if not done away with altogether."
