PRESS ASSOCIATION.
AMNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph.—Pres9 Association; Wellington, Last Night. The annual meeting of the Press Association was held this afternoon, there being present: 'Messrs P. Selig (chairman). 11. Brett, G. Fenwick, Hon. G. Carson, C. S. Smith, F. Pirani, H. Horton, L. Blundell, P. Bond, C. East, G. H. Walker, B. P, Furness, J. A' McKay, X. C. List, A. MoNicol, 3. Cooinbe, W. C. Weston, 11. J, Gilmour, E. A. Jouvs, E. C. Huie, E. G. Kerr, E. Bell, F. E. Hyman, H, A. Duigan, G. T. Allen, A. E. Copping, W. Dinividdie, E. Darley, \V. McCullough, W. E. Kettle, C. J. Nightingale, \V. Atkin, A. E. Manning, A. A. Lucas, A. L. Muir, W.J. Geddis, C. Earle, G. 11. Dixon. The animal report made allusion to the fact that the Association had secured the rights to both the great cable services now supplying the Australian papers, and was able tu give the pick of the messages of both services. During the year over 750,000 words were supplied, and the amount was likely to be increased. Owing to the pressure of Government work on the cable lines there had been delays in transmission at times, which caused some inconvenience to subscribers but everything possible was done to improve matters. There was also congestion at times on the New Zealand lines, and most unfortunately the Cook Strait cables nail sev eral times been under repair, and this had interfered with local transmission to some extent. The port was now being used to distribute certain heavy budgets that could not be conveniently telegraphed. There were 71 subscribers to the Association. In discussing the report suggestions were oil'ered by several members as to the course which should be followed when the time came to renew cable contracts. The chairman delivered an exhaustive address covering the work of the Association in many branches, and on his motion i lie report and balance sheet were adopted. Messrs Brett, Horton,' Carson and Pirani. the retiring directors, wi-v" reelected without opposition, and Mr F. Shaw was re-i'livied muliier. Wellington was selected for nevt meeting. A suggestion was made hat the casualty lists posted up by Ihe Government would be much improved if the next of kin were inserted instead of the bare name as at present. From further discussion, it appeared that the possibility of amalgamating the Press Association and the Newspaper Proprietors' Association was under consideration _
