Mr John H. Pagni, Consular agent for Italy, Auckland, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr C. Ahier left last night for Auckland on an extended trip to the TJlame.,, Te Aioha and Eotorua district#. A seventeen year old boy, Jack C Madden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michaev Madden, of Palmerston North, and an ex-pupil of the Marist Brothers' School, Wanganui, established a creditable record in the recent examinations. He passed liis matriculation, medical pre l 'liminary, and solicitor's general knowledge, and secured 114 th place in the Dominion Civil Service examination. T ®ev. Father Moore, who is leaviiv? New Plymouth, having been appomted parish priest at Ohura, was last night farewelled by the parishioners of St Joseph's Church at the Rolland Hail which was crowded. In the absence of Mr Jennings, M.P., who later put in an appearance, IHo chair was occupied by Mr A. Mcllardy. Rev. Mean McKenna, Fathers Moore and Kellv, Messrs W. T Jennings, M.P.', and A. F. Graha|i occupied seats .on the platform. Mr McHardv, in a few appropriate words, referred to the good wjork their guest had done during his two and a half years' administration in this parish, of which lie had spiritual charge for eighteen months, during the absence of Rev. D<>nn McKenna, He then presented Father Moore with a cheque for a hamUomo amount, wishing him at the same tiiist a long career of usefulness in his iov parish. Rev. Deaii McKenna, Father Kelly and Mr Joinings endorsed the chairman's remarks. Father Moore, who ivas enthusiastically received, briefly responded, thanking the parishioners for the assistance they had given him during his stay here, and for the kindness they had shown to him. Ho specially thanked the Dean for his great kindn.'ss to him, also Father Kelly for valuable assistance rendered. Failier Moore leaves for Ohura to-morrow morning. Private Edgar- Carter, of the 24tii Reinforcements, is at present spending a few days special leave in New PLmouU. Mr W. Hill JoiinL-on, who has icced as assistant to the Rev. G. W. Dent, at t-ltliaij, during (he past two or three years, left by the Rarawa last ivnhfr to temporary charge of a district north of Auckland. He was accompanied by Mi-s Hill Johnson. On Tucsdi\y he was entertained by the settlers of Mangatoki at a garden party, at Mr A. C. Pease's rem. dence, and presented with a cheque. Intlie evening he was presented by the memb/fs of the C.E.M.S. with a cheque, and by the settlers of Rotokare with a purse of sovereigns. The parents and children at Ngaere presented Mr Johnson with a teacher's bible on Saturday. The children of Rawhitiroa Sunday School presented Mr Johnson with a prayer book and hymn book, and his own children of All Saints presented him with a case of pipes, Mrs Johnson receiving a jam spoon and butter knife.
