TO-DAY'S SHOW
Another chapter in tlie history of thnt very useful organisation, the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society, is to commence to-day, when the new show grounds at the Waiwakaiho (Rewa Eewa) will be. used for the first time. It is a matter for congratulation that the Society has at length obtained a show ground of its own, in a most convenient position, and possessing ample accommodation for many years to come. Few people outside the band of strenuoinf workers can realise the enormous work that has now been brought to fruition, and the farming community, as well as all other residents of Xorth Taranaki liave good reason to be proud of the attainment. The fact that this forward Btep has not been taken in normal times, but in a period of stress consequent on the war, makes the movement all tho more creditable, for it shows the indom itable spirit of the British race is still as active as ever, and that it can overcome what would seem to others insu perablc difficulties. It now only remains with the fanners and tho general ptibliu to signalise their appreciation of the Society's work, and the devotion of tho •officials, especially of the president (Mr J. S. Connett), to the welfare of the district, by giving their ungrudging support to the Show, both by membership oi the Society and by attendance at tho fixture which opens to-day, and is continued to-morrow, when the Acting Prime Minister will formally open the new grounds and the 1!)17 Show. Tho entries have exceeded expectations, so that visitors will find an abundance of material to arouse their interest, and the competitions will certainly prove keen. There are features in the Show that appeal to all classes of the community, and the arrangements are as complete as it is possible to make them, while the fact that the Citizen's Band is providing the musical portion of the programme will be an added attraction. It is to be hoped that the attendance will, bo a record, and thus compensate in some measure for the strenuous work that has been so successfully carried out. It should be remembered that thesi shows are a factor in the progress and prosperity of the district, so that their success should be a point of honor on the part of the people. Taranaki is now worthily provided with agricultural shows, and it only remains to put them to the best possible use. A convenient transport system is available, and should be liberally patronised. We heartily wish success to the new venture.
