ATTACKS ON SANNAI YAT. SOUTHERN POSITION CAPTURED. THE TIGRIS CROSSED. THIRD AND FOURTH LINES TAKEN. COUNTER ATTACKS FAIL. A. & N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter. Received Feb. 27, 6.45 p.m. London, February 25. Mesopotamia, official.—'The southern portion of the Sannai Yat position was captured on Thursday. It consisted of | two lines with a 450 yards frontage by one hundred yards in depth. Six coun-ter-attacks failed. Our assault on Thursday afternoon resulted in the capture of two lines over a nine hundred yards front. Before daybreak on Friday we crossed the Tigris in the neighborhood of the Shumran bed. Our covering parties were established on the left* bank, and within nine hours we completed the bridge and consolidated our position, despite stubborn resistance. Simultaneously we resumed the assault on Sannai Yat and captured the third and fourth lines over a 1050 yards front. We took 544 prisoners in the Shunran area on Friday.
