XOTES ON THE MEETING, (By "Moturoa."). Wanganui, Feb. 22. The meeting opened *n downcast weather, several showers falling during the day. The course was in good order. The attendance, which included many Taranaki sports, was large. The winners were hard to pick, and Taranaki horses failed to win a race, though Golden Grafton and Revocation paid second dividends. Mascot was a hot favorite for the Stewards' Handicap, but took no part in the finish. Clef was always prominjust lasting long enough to fluke El win from Golden Grafton, who finished very fast. •Moutoa Queen and Revocation had most backers in the Petre Handicap. Revocation looked the winner at tile distance, but failed to stall off the finishing run by Moutoa Queen. Cora Oro shaped poorly. A surprise awaited ba&'ers in the We.stmerc Hurdles. Record was a hot order, but filenorchy led all tho way, and won easily. A poor field lined up for the Tayfortl/ belter, Thames being favorite and winning from end to end. Sunbird and Master Lupin were withdrawn from the Cup, leaving eleven runbeing the most admired as they paraded. Depredation was very sore and moved scratchily in his preliminary. Housewife and Analogue made the pace, followed by Kurapai and hunting, the lylnppers in being Client and Depredation. The latter pair improved their positions half a mile from home, but Depredation got knocked back at last. Bunting was second nearing the bend, With Client coining fast. Client challenged Bunting at the distance, and won amidsb. great enthusiasm. Tho victory of Mr Duncan's horse was very nopular Analogue firfTshed well in third place. All started in the Juvenile Handicap, Silver Tongue being rushed at the eleventh hour. Birkenvale led into tho straight, but left the rails, letting the favorite up in the iast few strides. Iceberg and Poherc each carried over a thousand in the Wiritoa -Hack Handicap. Crown Head led along the back, but was passed by Iceberg. At the turn Crown Head came again in the last furlong, winning narrowly on tho post. Form Up and Chakwana monopolised the betting in the Flying Handicap, fin Ishmg as backed. Chakwana, Tete-a-tete and Interlude prominent to the turn, where Form Up came through Mid won comfortably. ° / ' ~ T
