SECRET OPERATIONS IN DOMINION. London, Feb. 20. In the House of Commons, Mr. Stanton asked Mr. Long whether he had seen the report of the Colonial Consign, nient Company, which poinded' out the effort of the Chicago beef monopoly to corner the New Zealand meat output; whether his attention had been called to the secret operations of the Meat Trust in New Zealand; whether, seeing that irritation and suspicion exists in New Zealand regarding what- companies are under American control, he will immediately confer with Mr. Massey regarding the steps necessary to keep this source of Britain's food supply free from foreign influence. Mr. Long replied: My attention has been drawn to the matter and I am fn communication with Mr. Massey with the view of considering what action can be taken. « TO AVOID WASTAGE OF FOOD. United Service. London, Feb. 20. Tho Daily Mail says that the food situation is growing more serious, and advocates public kitchens in towns and villages similar to those in Germany, in order to avoid wastage. ARMY WORK FOR WOMEN. London, Feb. 20. The Army Council has adopted a scheme of substituting women for men where possible in army work in Frant* and England.
