' Westport, February 20.—Kaituna (0 p.m.), from New Plymouth. .Captain Jensen, who proposes to re3t ashore after over rfO years of strenuous sea-trading, gave over the command of the s.s. Tainui to Captain O'Connor on Saturday. A striking tribute to the seamanship of the first-named is the fact that during his 37 years on the New Zealand coast he has never had a mishap. It was for an act of humanity that the Akaroa people presented him with an inscribed barometer, for, when on the ketch Agnes, he took her close to Jackson's Head to rescue survivors of the bargue LastingKam. Captain Jenson first came to Waitara in the schooner Zior, and in 1890 was apointed t« the Manakau, trading between Waitara and Mokau. He made that vessel pay, when previously she liad not, and the trade so developed that in 1903 the owners went in for the Tainui, the welltried skipper naturally transferring to the larger boat. Since then he has continued his successful career, and has Burely earned a spell.-—Waitara Mail.
